This makes it a tough game to master, but it also makes those moments you pull off a tricky maneuver rewarding. There’s a real heft to vehicles and it can be rewarding to fight the elements. You will slip and slide all over the place if you aren’t careful and crash hard.

This is a game that loves to remind you that driving in bad weather sucks. However, those difficulty options probably won’t help if you already suck at driving sims and will wrestle with the twists and turns. If you suck with these systems, there are numerous difficulty sliders to help you choose how big of a deal damage to your car is, which is really helpful for the newbies in the audience. It pays to be careful, for damage done to your car can add up if you’re not careful both in time and money. You race across unforgiving terrain and tracks, all with the help of your co-driver directing you with motorsport jargon that I pretend to understand.
WRC 9 REVIEW SIMULATOR
WRC 9 is a rally simulator through and through. I wasn’t able to properly appreciate it during my time with WRC 9, but you might if you’ve got the rig. Landscapes, crowds, weather conditions, the like. This makes sense though, considering how much is being rendered during races. For comparison, I could run Resident Evil 3 without issue and that was still aesthetically pleasing. I had to quit the game after I turned down the quality, skipping said tutorial. But when you add the aforementioned hardware-intensity, it means that the time it takes to properly get into the game will be slow if you don’t have the best hardware. Normally, this wouldn’t be a problem and you can have a proper training session before diving in. The moment you enter the game, you are then thrust into a tutorial. There’s one nitpick I have that comes from this graphical intensity.

Even then, my computer was burning up with all of those changes and didn’t run with the butter smoothness I’ve come to expect.
WRC 9 REVIEW DRIVERS
My setup isn’t low end, but I still needed to update all of my drivers and put everything on its lowest setting to run it reasonably. By that, I mean it will make your computer melt if you don’t have your specs up to snuff. While I don’t find it too distracting, if they could fix it that would be awesome. The first thing off the bat is that WRC9 is a game for the next generation. Only complaint is how some shadows are handled on some stages, as they drawn right in front of the car, literally. Lots of features, topnotch gameplay, nice presentation for the Switch, it’s a 9/10 for me. So if you add all that to an already very good game, you simply get the ultimate WRC experience, the best rally game ever released on a handheld, period. The Corolla is one of my favorite WRC cars ever, so very happy with that!!! - I might be wrong on this one, but I think lighting has been improved.

Some classic cars are available, such as the Corolla (available through DLC), Xsara, and Focus. I attached a couple screenshots so you can get an idea of what’s possible. You even have a showcase mode from the main menu, where you can select the car, weather, etc. This one is pretty nice, all the features you’d expect are there. Ě photo mode!!!! I just love photo mode in videogames. It really adds a lot to the aesthetics, by “hiding” some of the not-so-pretty assets. Especially on Switch where the surroundings are far from being detailed, with low resolution, etc. This might not seem like a big deal, but during replays it is like night and day with respect to the overall looks of the game. The most important one is that the Argentina stages are now all playable with a perfectly constant 30 fps. Such as the erratic “jump” the car was making before it would get to the start line, or some “missing text” glitch on the reports you got after an event, or those horrendous water splashes showing up before the car would actually touch the water, or in my case being stuck in WRC 2 forever despite performing all the recommended actions and being WRC2 champ multiple times (heard that it was a bug very early on). Main reasons for me are : -Ěll the glitches that I would personally be irritated by, were fixed. I’ve put quite a lot time on WRC 8, and though both games are not that different from each other, I do think that WRC 9 is worth a purchase even if you own the previous installment. I’ve put quite a lot time on WRC 8, and though both I strongly think this game deserves more attention and I’m glad Kylotonn made this port. I strongly think this game deserves more attention and I’m glad Kylotonn made this port.
